Welcome! I’m Sean Tomlinson. As well as being a professional guitarist I’ve been teaching guitar lessons in Hull for more than twenty years. My goal as a guitar teacher is to share my passion for rock, blues and acoustic music with you and to help you express yourself through your guitar playing in a way you’ve never done before.
If you decide to take guitar lessons with me I’ll use my years of experience to guide you in the right direction. I’ll be able to see in your hands what needs to be done as soon as you touch the guitar. I have standard stuff each pupil needs to learn just to be able to reach a certain standard (chords, scales etc.) but my aim is to allow you to develop your own unique style.
Live playing has always been my passion – raw and honest soul playing that hurts your body just to try and express it on stage. I used to be exhausted afterwards if it was a good gig. I’ve also played great rock gigs and not remembered what I did. That’s rock n’ roll for me. You have to experience it to believe it. And that feeling is what I want you to connect with too.
I’m not one for flash fast playing. I love tone, passion, feeling in playing and that’s what I try to make my students aware of. I try to teach them that as beginners they need to learn HOW to become a musician. It changes you as a person and how you think. For me it’s all about connecting with what you are doing and mastering the instrument. It’s no good if you just disconnect your ear and brain from what you’re playing. Then it just becomes an exercise. Instead I want to teach you to become aware so you can open up and expand your capabilities with the guitar.
